Wow.

I wasn't intending on leaving this blog without a post for so long.

I've just been so wrapped up with other things -

Firstly, and most importantly - the fact that I'm getting married to the girl of my dreams.. in 4 days!

Secondly - the art book went nowhere! I spent a few weeks trying to write the story for my entry to the book and I got writers block after labouring over one paragraph and abandoned it.

And I suppose that meant I lost interest in doing it all together being the self centered jerk I am!

But honestly its something I would like to return to - I just was silly thinking I could handle doing that in addition to my already-going top secret project. Which I still can't really post about without feeling like I'm giving away some amazing secret.

So thirdly - I've been working on a personal video game project. Its the first time I've taken the plunge and gone forward working on a personal project this devotedly - we've now put... ~6 months work into it. My good friends Boon, Kizza and I that is. Boon has fantastically taught himself C and the XNA framework and has really been the driving force in getting this project off the ground.. thankfully letting me just focus on the story, characters, art and design for the whole thing, while Kizza has done pretty much nothing yet.

In the 6 months we've worked on it I've mostly just strained to get my head around what I want to do and now to do it (artistically speaking). I've made some breakthroughs and hit some stumbling blocks too. This past week I've made no progress and devoted myself to working on the design document instead of art.. its nice being able to bounce around between tasks.

So I'll probably have to post soon about what the game actually is because Boon is eager to start an official blog. That sound be interesting - I'll be making public some of my art for it. Scary. I might start by mocking up some teasery pictures or something. What a wussy way to go.

A Book

In this thrilling installment I tell you about how I've begun work on an art book - I've asked a group of friends at work to submit works based on a central theme for this art book - they can be photography, sketches, paintings, comics, writing - I would consider it a hardcover curated gallery zine or something.

We're doing it for ourselves really - so each person pays the XX amount for their copy to get published - and I'm considering getting extras printed for others who aren't interested in putting work in but just want a copy (Its their money, they can do what they want.)

In any case - we've set a 3 month limit for the work to be done - I'm editing so I'll be putting it all together to send off the publishing company - and I'm the one telling people if they're doing a dumb idea.

Should be interesting - will update here occasionally with news of how its going - no art though, I am keeping everyones (including mine) secret. After the book is back from printing and everyone has their copy I'll put up my work on here anyhow - I am pretty sure everyone following this blog will be getting a paper copy anyhow...

Different Brush.

Trying a different brush. Was using it so it was 50% in one pass, then 100% black on a second pass - interesting having to get suggestion of form with one stroke then use the second one to just define it.

First pic is Naota and Haruko from FLCL.

Second pic is of a (dead?) girl (having a nap!)

Cat Eyed Boy (Plus NSFW Pin Up Action!)

A quicky - inspired by Kazuo Umezu's awesome manga from the late 60's - Cat Eyed Boy. Currently half way through Vol 2. Bit like Astroboy mixed with Tomie.

Also totally stealing the colour palette used by Viz for the amazing retro sleeve design.

Speaking of Astro Boy. Here's an oldie that i just finished off since it started looking okay to me again and needed to be finished off. Nice and colourful and sunny for a cold rainy day.

Now for something completely different!

Unfinished pinup girl with weird proportions!!!!

WOOOWOOOOO!!!!

Metroid Lesson

Here is a lesson - Don't keep working on something for ages when it probably doesn't deserve to be worked upon. Is this an improvement over my original 20 minute Metroid? Perhaps. Or maybe not.

Also what happened to the Doctor Who I was working on..

Lazy Metroid.

I have been really lazy lately.

Super lazy work right here. I felt bad for being so lazy on the Super Art Shambles so I decided to do a really lazy Metroid entry when I saw James had already posted his very nice effort already.

Speaking of lazy - heres another I never bothered to finish.. Misty from Pokemon for the Pokemon week...

I use a lot of pink :/
